Creating an iCal URL for the Birthday Widget

Follow the guide to generate an ICS (iCalendar) URL for the birthday widget, enabling you to display upcoming birthdays on your Digital Signage screens.

This article provides instructions for users of Office 365, Outlook, and Google Calendar. Please follow the appropriate section based on your calendar service.

Please be aware that this manual is not compatible with the Office 365 app. To proceed, you must log in to https://outlook.office.com/ using your email details, and then follow the steps outlined below.

Instructions for Setting Up the Birthday Widget

For Outlook Users

Step 1: Obtain Your ICS URL

  1. Log in to Outlook:

  2. Access Calendar Settings:

    • Click on the gear icon in the top right corner.
    • Select "Calendar" from the menu on the left.
    • Choose "Shared Calendars".
  3. Get the ICS URL:

    • Select the calendar you wish to publish and check the option "Can view all details".
    • Click on "Publish".
    • Copy the ICS URL provided.


For Google Calendar Users

Step 1: Obtain Your ICS URL

  1. Log in to Google Calendar:

  2. Access Calendar Settings:

    • Locate the calendar you want to share on the left sidebar. Hover over the calendar name, click the three vertical dots (More options), and select "Settings and sharing".
    • Scroll down to the "Integrate calendar" section.
    • Copy the "Secret address in iCal format" URL.

      Get the ICS URL:

Ensure that you copy the URL starting with "https." If the URL does not already include this, make sure to add it at the beginning.

 



    • Step 2: Creating the Birthday Widget

      1. Start Widget Creation:

        • Click on "Create Clip".
      2. Add the Birthday Widget:

        • Navigate to the Birthday widget under "Other" and click "Add to playlist".
      3. Configure the Widget:

        • Enter all required fields.
        • Select "ICAL" as the input type.
        • Paste the ICS URL you copied from Step 1
        • Preview the birthdays for the upcoming 7 days on the right.
